I first had to upload my videos from the SD card to iMovie, to do this I had to click import and get the clips from the SD data, however many problems occurred while doing this and as a result made me fall behind on my overall progress of the creation of my music video. I tried many ways to upload the clips onto iMovie, I tried dragging the clips, change the format, renaming, uploading straight from the camera but still it did not work. I then put the SD card onto the mac at home and all the clips had come up, I then thought the reason for it not working at school is because of the software update as the school iMovie is of 09. I then moved all my clips from the mac at home to a USB, I then put this into the school mac and all the clips imported onto iMovie.
Events were then created automatically, in order to categories each clip by date as I did my video recording on two different days.
Below are the different transitions that iMovie allows you to use, these are used when you are putting two different clips next to each other and these transitions allows them to merge and make a smoother change to different scenes.
In the first section I wanted to show Anisa and then Momina, as the lyrics goes quite quick I needed to have a transition that is quite rapid but blends the two clips well. I therefore, chose the transition that is called "cross blur" this made the two clips combine by having Anisa's clip fade away while Momina's clip darkens. Making a part where they both are put together, this worked well as they were in the same position and the camera was in the same angle, making it immaculate.
For this specific scene, I had to use the camera portrait as by using it landscape would mean a lot of excess background would get it that I did not need. This is because I used a scarf to create a different colour background by pinning it against the wall, however the scarf was not too big to cover a lot of the wall. Therfefore, I had to change the camera to portrait, but after importing this clip to iMovie, I realised that it went landscape.
I then had to click on an option where it allows me to rotate my clips, I did this by clicking on
However, after rotating the clip, in order to fit the same size frame as the rest of the clips, iMovie had added a balck background to the clip. I did not want this as it did not fit in with the rest of the clips and made it look quite amateur and not at a professional standard. And so, I thought that I may have to record this scene again and have the camera landscape.
Within this scene, I needed a white background which I do have in my bedroom, however it is next to the door and so a bit of this got into the frame, making it look improper and so I had to crop this section out.
To crop the unwanted sections I had to click on the edit section again, there are options of how much you want to cut by re-sizing the rectangle box. However this did not let me change the shape by re-sizing just one side but only by the corner, and so I had to crop quite a bit out, making the characters zoomed in more.
I wanted some scenes to be re-winded, to create a more abstract and interesting look and so to do this I needed to double click on the clip and select video, then click "convert entire clip", this then gave me options of changing the clip to go backwards. I did this for various scenes such as; the paper being chucked in the air, the flour fight and going down the slide. For the paper and flour, it worked very well as it made it look unusual and unique but also a "magical" touch to it.
Having some sections re-winded allowed me to also change the pace of the scenes by either slowing it down or increasing the speed. For some sections I needed to increase the speed in order to fit into the line of the song while some needed to be expanded and so decreased the speed.
The lyrics mentions "LOL" and so I wanted this to be shown quite explicitly therefore, I changed the pace to going quite slow, making the audience really focus on the expression of laughing and actions of pointing to one other. Making the video further entertaining and engaging with the younger audience.
Many components were intrinsic and spontaneous making the scene not look too stiff but natural, enabling their real expressions and actions take place and not be told what to do, this allows the characters to feel comfortable and satisfied with the result as well. One of the characters, chucking the flour in the air was not structured to do so, yet added a nice touch to the outcome. I also edited this by making the action re-winded, ensuring the other scenes of rewind, combine well.
Having the similar scenes where the characters are wearing the same outfit, I thought it will be ideal to have the same transitions flowing through as this keeps the video looking a bit more proficient as a wide range of transitions and pace have been used in other sections.
For the chorus of the song, I put quite a variety of transitions, making it interesting as well as keeping to the fast pace and energetic theme of the song. This accumulates the build up and entertains the audience further and also fits in with the range of scenes such as the face paints and actions.
For the last scene, I wanted to have a fade out, in order to have a well blended ending, and so I chose the "fade to black" transition as I thought it would fit in well with the beginning of the video with the black background. I also changed the pace of the scene by making it end with a much slower speed and have the sound also fade out, this gives an evident sense to the audience that is the ending.
After I had finished editing my video, I needed to add a section at the beginning to show the song of the name, this makes it looking more professional and well structured. I chose a background that was dark but had "star-like" touch making it add up to the theme and not have a bright block colour as it would make it look juvenile which I did not want as this would enable attraction from young children only. I also chose a text that fits in well with the rest of the background, having the "lens flare" adds to the "star-like" look.
